Mansion in May Designer House and Lunch at The Madison Hotel
Alnwick Hall, know in recent years as the “The Abbey” and once the residence of Edward Peter Meany and his wife, Rosalie Behr, is a rare and largely unaltered survivor of “Millionaire’s Row,” in Morristown, N.J., a stretch that during the Gilded Age, was lined by a nearly unbroken series of large and elegant estate homes. At the time, it was referred to as “the street of the 100 millionaires” and “the finest four miles in the world.” The 20,000 squarefoot, brick mansion, designed by architect Percy Griffin, was modeled after various fifteenth-and sixteenth-century English prototypes. The Mansion will once again be brought to life through the design creations of some of the metropolitan area’s leading interior designers. Seeing these rooms are sure to inspire us of things to do in our own homes. Following the tour, we will have a fabulous 3-course lunch at the Madison Hotel. It is set amidst a countrified and tranquil setting. The Georgian style facade and dramatic clock tower of hotel have been a landmark for over a quarter of a century in Morristown, N.J. It is reminiscent of a more gracious and genteel time and it blends timeless elegance and personalized service and award winning cuisine to create a truly memorable experience.
