A Longwood Gardens Christmas

A Longwood Gardens Christmas and Lunch at the Kennett Square Inn Thursday, December 7, 2017 One of the most beautiful holiday displays in the area takes place at the Annual Longwood Gardens Christmas, which hosts some of the most festive displays and exhibits. Our docent will enlighten us on the Longwood story that is one of legacy, innovation and stewardship. The Gardens are a living expression of all that Pierre du Pont found inspiring, meaningful, and beautiful. From the intricate fountain systems to the meticulous gardens to the architectural grandeur and awe-inspiring discoveries around every corner. The traditions and elegance of the gardens have evolved over the decades to create the magnificence we have today. After the docent tour, we will have time to explore, on our own, the 41⁄2 acres of the heated indoor conservatory with its twenty “rooms” featuring garlands, sparkling trees, 500,000 twinkling lights, holiday music, seasonal plants and much more. When we leave Longwood Gardens we will have a fabulous 3 course lunch in the heart of Kennett Square at the historic Kennett Square Inn, circa 1832. Mansions Along the Delaware

Mansions Along the Delaware and Lunch at the Union League Golf Club Thursday, October 26, 2017 From the time of William Penn through the turn of the 20th century many of Philadelphia’s first families built their country estates on the banks of the Delaware River. By river barge or carriage they came to escape the heat of summers in the city and it was here that they entertained some of the foremost figures in the history of our nation. We will travel first to Glen Foerd on the Delaware, which is the last remaining riverfront estate open to the public in Philadelphia. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Historic American Landscape Survey, this 18-acre riverfront estate will take you to the Roaring 20’s. The tour of the estate’s mansion explores the industrial age of Philadelphia through the stories of the estates owners, servants and industrial workers. Financier Charles Macalester Jr. founded the estate in 1850. It was then purchased in 1895 by leather manufacturing magnate, Robert Foerderer. They enlarged the house with classical revival additions. Later the estates landscape was redesigned in the American Country Place era of landscape architecture design. The mansion’s interior architectural features include an art gallery, Haskell player pipe organ, grand staircase, and a stained glass Tiffany-style dome. After our guided tour we will travel just a short distance for a delightful 3-course lunch in the Presidents Room at the Union League Golf Club. Our last stop will be at the Grundy Mansion — an elegant, red brick Queen Ann style home that combines modern conveniences with a nostalgic styling. The rooms are appointed as if the family had just stepped out for the afternoon. It has finely carved oak and cherry paneling, stained glass and the Grundy family’s original furnishings and personal possessions. Our guide will offer a rare glimpse of domestic life during the 19th century and the late Victorian period. Price: $65 per person (lunch included) Time: 8:45 a.m. until approximately 4:30 p.m. Location: We will carpool from St. Mary Medical Center parking lot OR you can meet us at Glen Foerd by 9:45 a.m. Purchase Tickets Online via PayPal Number of tickets 1 ticket $65.00 USD2 tickets $130.00 USD3 tickets $195.00 USD4 tickets $260.00 USD5 tickets $325.00 USD6 tickets $390.00...
